Where old mattresses go

Mattresses are one of the worst landfill items — bulky, slow to break down, and miserable to compact. Where regional facilities allow, we route mattresses to recyclers who separate the steel springs, foam, and fiber. Gently used mattresses in genuinely clean condition can sometimes be donated; our crew will tell you honestly which path yours qualifies for.
